We have our own baker, confectioner, butcher and flower decorator
WELCOME
to Munkebjerg Hotel
Since 1880, when the first edition of Munkebjerg Hotel opened, we have strived to create the optimal setting for our guests, so that we can deliver experiences of well-being and tranquility.
When you are a guest with us, no detail is too small – we know what it means to make an effort, we do it every day.
The Munkebjerg, as we know it today, opened on 7 July 1967 and consists of 20 meeting and conference rooms, 158 rooms, four restaurants, a bar, a wine cellar, a casino as well as a wellness department and a fitness area.
From our beautiful terrace we have perhaps one of Denmark's most beautiful views of Vejle Fjord.
Under the corridors of the hotel there is an underground city where our own butcher, baker, confectioner and flower decorator live.
We are thus fully capable of delivering everything from meat to cakes to home-baked bread and beautiful flower decorations that adorn the hotel every day.
Together, it all adds up to a four-star hotel with five-star conference facilities and scenic surroundings that could easily throw five stars off - if we do say so ourselves.
IN BRIEF FROM THE YEAR 1879 to 2024
Prehistory
Why is the area called Munkebjerg?
For approx. 400 years ago, a family by the name of Munk lived on a farm near the current Munkebjerg Hotel. Jens Munk was a notorious man with a reputation for bad behaviour. He was killed, and after that there were stories and legends that he "walked again" in the form of a ghost, a dog or other things. It is still said that he ghosts every 7 years.
For many years after his death, people did not dare to walk in the area after dark. When the Schweitzer Pavilion was built, the workers would only work in broad daylight, precisely because of the legend. Originally, the area was called Munkeskoven, named after the Munk family. At the request of Ole Nielsen, who opened the first Schweitzerpavillon, the area was called Munkebjerg.

March 1, 2009
New initiatives in Treetup Restaurant and Wine Cellar
Treetop Restaurant's sommelier Orla Farmann has chosen to retire as of 1 March 2009, and on that occasion we have a desire to change a little in the Treetop Restaurant's concept.
Firstly, we would like to give all our guests the opportunity to come to the wine cellar throughout the week and hereby encourage a visit to the well-stocked wine cellar and buy a glass of champagne or another welcome drink in the cellar before consuming the menu in one of the hotel's other restaurants . Guests in Gourmet Weekend Stays on Fridays and Saturdays and Treetop parties for a minimum of 8 people every day start as usual in the wine cellar with champagne and appetizers.
Instead of an a la carte menu card, we are developing a company card from which you can choose your menu from 7 gourmet dishes as well as a seasonal menu. The menu must be pre-ordered and sent to guests, or they can read it on our website. Wines can be pre-ordered, selected in the wine cellar before dinner or they can choose the wine menu that we have selected for the individual dishes.
As before, we will arrange various theme evenings in the Treetop Restaurant at a high level and we will not change the concept for Treetop conferences, except that the menu must be pre-ordered as described above.
2012 The fire at Munkebjerg Hotel
On 27 December 2012, the flames rose from the Munkebjerg Hotel.
The fire started in the hotel's large kitchen and took hold of the exhaust system and the roof structure. What was initially thought to be a fire in a deep fryer had spread to the roof, and then it happened very quickly. The hotel's kitchen and function rooms burned down just days before the annual New Year's party with 325 guests.
Munkebjerg Hotel's director, René Aarby Sørensen, gathered the hotel's staff, and a plan for carrying out the New Year's party was set in motion. The kitchen staff borrowed a kitchen from the then sister hotel in Horsens, Hotel Opus, and here preparations began for the New Year's party. The New Year's party was held as planned with very few changes.
The reconstruction of the hotel's kitchen and function rooms went quickly, and already for the confirmations in May 2013, new beautiful function rooms were ready. Salon 2, 3 and 4 had been expanded and are today large, bright rooms with access to the viewing terrace and can be used for meetings and parties.
A new beautiful kitchen was established, and a delicious open lobby bar with access to the wine cellar, which fortunately was not damaged, is now located where the Treetop Restaurant once was.
The Treetop Restaurant was moved to new premises and got a panoramic view of Vejle Fjord. The menu and concept for the restaurant was upgraded and has been the workplace for chefs such as Rasmus Munk (Alchemist), Bryan Francisco (Black Sheep Gourmet) and Nicolaj Møller (AYA Dining). Today, the reigning Chef of the Year 2024 is Bjarke Jeppesen, who receives great nominations and great praise for his culinary art.
2016 The East Wing's rooms are upgraded
Renovation of the standard rooms in the hotel's east wing.
59 rooms received a light renovation with new carpets, paint on the walls, new lamps and a good sofa bed for sleeping as well as new pictures on the walls.
The photos are motifs from the forest and the fjord and were taken by photographer Michael Eisenberg.
When a room at Munkebjerg Hotel is renovated, only good materials and high-quality furniture are used. Among other things, chairs from Børge Mogensen and Louis Poulsen lamps adorn the hotel's standard rooms.
2017 Munkebjerg's 50th anniversary
7 July 2017 was the 50th anniversary of Munkebjerg Hotel.
The whole of 2017 was one long celebration with events for the hotel's loyal customers, a joint 50th birthday with local 50th birthdays, and a large open house event.
Here, almost 2.000 people came by for a look behind the scenes at the Munkebjerg Hotel and got samples and the history of the old hotel.
A small artist's colony was set up, as in the hotel's younger days, where local artists, including Monica Ritterband, painted a few works for the hotel.
2020 Munkebjerg Hotel in a pandemic
When corona hit and shut down large parts of Denmark, Munkebjerg Hotel remained open.
Here it was open to guests who might need an overnight stay due to work or somewhere quiet. During the corona pandemic, there was time to go through the hotel for small defects, and several places in the hotel were renovated, painted and bricked. Among other things, the viewing terrace received a renovation of the surface and new furniture, so that it was ready for the summer's guests.
2021 Tennis court
The tennis court was renovated and now has a nice, non-slip blue surface and a new net.
2022-23 Redevelopment of Evergreen into the meeting room of the future
The old Evergreen Night Club, which has provided a dance floor for many parties over the years, has been given a new purpose.
Now it is the meeting room of the future, where there can easily be up to 110 participants in a Teams meeting, lounge bar and function room in one.
The room is equipped with comfortable lounge furniture and the very latest in high-tech AV equipment.
2024 giant format LED screen
In the summer, we upgraded Munkebjergsalen's AV equipment and now offer one of Denmark's largest LED screens.
The LED screen is from the Maxhub brand and is assembled from 648 plates, and together it measures 347 inches or 32 m2. The image resolution is almost 4K and thus exceptionally high in relation to the size of the screen.
The unique picture quality is so high that it is possible to use lower brightness on the screen, which ensures that it is more relaxing for the eyes to look at it.
Everything is to optimize our guests' experience as a conference guest at Munkebjerg Hotel.
